“While I am there, I will be fully human… It is important that I remain hidden, for the enemy will try to kill me. I will be within his domain, and I will be subject to all the laws of the physical world.”
The King’s words sent Elric’s mind reeling. “What? The implications of this…”
In The Birth, the first book in the series, follow the angel captain Elric as he keeps the King hidden from His enemies until the time comes to begin His campaign.
Elric addressed the team. “You have all been specially selected for this most important mission. You know the nature of our task, so I need not tell you the significance of every move we make. The enemy will be watching closely. For this reason, we will be isolated and operating without regular direction. Our primary objective, above all else, is to keep the King hidden—which we will do. Today is probably the last time we will be gathered like this. If you have any questions, now is the time.”
“Captain,” one of the warriors called out. “The cherubim always go before the presence of the Lord’s glory. How will we keep Him hidden when the cherubim go forth?”
“There will be no cherubim.”
The warriors gasped and looked at each other.
Elric continued. “He will enter the Physical Realm like any other man. We are the only ones who will know of it.”
Murmuring broke out within the ranks.
One of the voices rose above the others, “Sir, if He becomes flesh, does it mean that His flesh can die?”
The room became silent.
“He will be subject to all the physical laws.”
A long breath of silence followed.
Another warrior asked, “Once the King is old enough and our mission is complete, will He bring in the generals to lead His army in the final battle?”
“We know nothing more than this first phase.”
